
April Aycock, Ed.D, MS, LMHC, Master-CASAC
Dr. April Aycock is a nationally recognized behavioral health systems executive, licensed clinician, and founder of Awareness Mental Health Counseling Services, PLLC. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Master-Level Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, and holds a Doctorate in Executive Leadership.
Dr. Aycock was appointed and served as Director of the Monroe County Office of Mental Health, making history as the first Black and youngest leader to hold the position. In that role, she led a $52 million public behavioral health portfolio, managed 50+ provider contracts, and oversaw crisis and community-based systems serving more than 700,000 residents.
She is the architect of the first Adolescent and Young Adult Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Treatment Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center, expanding specialized recovery access for youth and young adults.
Dr. Aycock was selected to serve and currently serves on the New York State Office of Mental Health Multicultural Advisory Committee and the New York State Behavior Health Services Advisory Council. She completed the 2022 Healthcare Business Academy Fellowship Program through Northstar Network and has been recognized as a 2026 Health Care Hero Honoree by the Rochester Business Journal.
Her executive leadership influence extends statewide and nationally through service on policy and advisory bodies advancing equity, accountability, and behavioral health system transformation, strengthening governance, operational performance, and measurable community impact.
