Brian Martin, MPA

During the past five years, the Wilmot Cancer Institute has grown from two locations – at Highland Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital – to a dozen sites spanning Western New York and the Southern Tier. This unparalleled growth would not have occurred without the creativity, business acumen, and dedication of Brian Martin.

Brian is associate director for administration at Wilmot Cancer Institute, a position he has held for nearly two decades. He is responsible for one of the largest entities within the University of Rochester Medical Center, one touching many clinical specialties, such as radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and urology, as well as more research-oriented departments, such as biomedical genetics and immunology.

On a daily basis, Brian deals with diverse, complex tasks such as completing budgets, overseeing grant submission, and mentoring administrators. At the same time, he’s made significant contributions to expanding the institute’s regional presence.

In addition to managing the acquisition of several practices and dozens of staff members, Martin oversaw the construction of a new building in Geneva, Ontario County, the renovation of space in Brockport, and a $1 million renovation of Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Batavia, Genesee County, location. He also helped broker a complex joint venture between Noyes Health, Jones Memorial Hospital, and Wilmot Cancer Institute, to create the Ann and Carl Myers Cancer Center, a regional hub for cancer care based in Dansville, Livingston County. Since it opened its doors in January 2017, oncologists at the center have provided more than 4,000 visits for patients who have received their cancer care closer to home. These patients would otherwise have traveled an hour or more each way for chemotherapy or radiation.
